IBM has just published a critical security alert concerning partitions with an IASP and V7R4 TR10 and V7R5 TR4 versions. An internal counter may become negative, resulting in :
⚠️ IASP pages stop being written
⚠️ System performance slows down
The problem requires an IPL to be solved. Here’s what you need to know:
Checking exposure to vulnerability 🔍
If V7R4 TR10 or V7R5 TR4 are applied, use these commands to check status:
🔹 *WRKDEVDASP
🔹 DSPASPSTS
What should you do if your situation is different?
1️⃣ If patches are not installed:
- For V7R4, apply MJ02267 here.
- For V7R5, apply MJ02268 here.
🔁 Activate/deactivate IASP after installation.
2️⃣ If the patch is already installed:
✅ No action required. Check with DSPASPSTS that IASP is disabled after patching.
3️⃣ If TR10/TR4 is not installed:
🔒 You are not exposed to the problem. Make sure the patches are installed and run an IPL.
Symptoms to watch out for 👀
If the problem is active, you may observe :
⚠️ High error rate
⚠️ Job overload
⚠️ Blocked or unfinished jobs
Temporary solutions 💡
If the system is already affected :
- CLRPOOL can help improve performance.
- In the event of a complete block, you can use the command :
CHGASPACT ASPDEV(ASPDEV) OPTION(*FRCWRT)
Note: If necessary, collect a Main Storage Dump to prove that you have encountered this problem.
